Senior students from StageFlight Drama School will be presenting a one hour comedy performance of “Arlecchino and the City of Love” at Twyford Hall in Merimbula on Sunday 22 October at 2.00pm.
The lovable but cheeky servant Arlecchino and his companions will transport you back to 16th century Venice – the city of love – where there are cases of mistaken identity, lost and reunited love, travellers in disguise, silly plots, sassy maids and greedy old men. Mayhem ensues, but all’s well in the end!
Director Lis Shelley has been rehearsing the students over the last two terms in Commedia dell’Arte techniques – a form of masked theatre developed in Italy – and says the students have taken to this play like ducks to water. “They just love playing the Lazzi – gags – that are part of the Commedia tradition. Rehearsals have been a lot of fun as the students have discovered the magic of comedic timing and and developed their own physical gags along the way. Earlier in the year the students decorated their own masks and some of them appear in this performance.”
The show runs for approximately one hour and is suitable for all ages but recommended for ages 8 and up. Afternoon tea available after the show.
